Painted scaffolds, dimensions variable, 2026

This work, an extension of the Scaffold Series, is the first in the series to employ a cuplock and grid system. It was included in An Abstract Turn: Baroda from the 1950s to Now, an exhibition tracing the evolution of abstraction at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda through the practices of key alumni and faculty over seven decades. The exhibition brought together nineteen artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and installation.

Cuplock scaffolding is a modular construction system that uses vertical standards and horizontal ledgers to form a rigid, interlocking grid. It creates a structural framework free of diagonal bracing. This compositional approach, based on an orthogonal grid without diagonals, aligns closely with my overarching sensibility, where structure, repetition, and modularity function as both material strategy and conceptual language.
